Production Notes
In the scene where Charlie's character is so hungry that he cooks and eats a shoe - the prop shoe was made of licorice. The 2,500 men playing prospectors were actually vagrants who were working in the film for a day's pay.
Actress Carole Lombard actually tested for the film's female lead.
The "dancing rolls" scene was so popular that theater projectionists would stop the movie, back up the film and re-run the scene.
